SMS Compliance And A2P 10DLC
What A2P 10DLC is, why there is nothing for you to register, and why your texts begin with a brand name.
Last updated October 22, 2026
Texting American mobile numbers at scale requires carrier registration, called A2P 10DLC. The short version for you is: there is nothing for you to fill in. This explains what is happening on your behalf, and what the two compliance marks on every text are for.
There Is No Registration Screen, And That Is Correct
A2P 10DLC requires a registered brand and a registered campaign with the mobile carriers. OPVII holds that registration at the platform level and your workspace sends under it. There is no brand form, no campaign form and no provisioning wizard in your account, because none is needed from you.
If you have been told otherwise, or you are reading older material that says OPVII walks you through provisioning, that is out of date. Nothing is asked of you and nothing here is yours to configure.
Why Your Texts Begin With A Brand Name
Carriers reject campaigns whose sample messages do not carry the registered brand name, so OPVII adds it at send time. Your attendees see something in this shape:
OPVII (for Putnam Financial): Hi Karen, you're registered for...
The registered brand comes first, then your own business name in brackets, then your words. Your business name is whatever you set as Business / Workspace Name under Settings, then the Messaging tab, so that is the field to fix if the name in brackets is wrong.
The prefix is added automatically and counts toward the 160-character limit on a text. That is why the template editor measures the finished length rather than what you typed, and the hint there says your registered sender ID is added automatically and counts toward the limit.
The Second Mark: The Opt-Out Line
Every text also carries Reply STOP to opt out., appended at send time and skipped when your own wording already says STOP. It also counts toward the 160 characters. Opt-out keywords are handled automatically and immediately: see How Opt-Out (STOP And HELP) Works.
Between the prefix and the opt-out line, plan on writing noticeably fewer than 160 characters of your own. The editor's counter is the number to trust.
What You Are Responsible For
The registration is handled. The content is yours:
- Only text people who gave you their number for this purpose. A contact's SMS Consent row records it.
- Let opt-outs stand. OPVII enforces this for you, and overriding somebody who has opted out is refused.
- Keep your Business / Workspace Name accurate, because it is what identifies you in every text.
- Respect sending hours. See Quiet Hours.
If Texting Is On Hold
On some installations texting is gated until a workspace's number is carrier-approved. When that applies and yours is not yet approved, your texts are held rather than lost, and you will see this:
- In the sidebar, under Messaging, click Inbox.
- Switch to the Sent tab.
- Held texts carry a Number Pending badge.
Hovering it says that texting is on hold until the carrier approves this workspace number and campaign, and that email is unaffected. Nothing is queued twice and nothing is dropped: the messages go out once approval lands. There is no action available to you in the portal, so contact support if it stays that way.
How To Tell Everything Is Fine
- On the Sent tab, your texts show as sent rather than carrying a Number Pending badge.
- A text you receive yourself begins with the brand prefix and ends with the opt-out line.
- The name in brackets in that prefix is your business name, spelled the way you want it.
- Replying STOP to it gets the unsubscribe confirmation straight back.
If Something Goes Wrong
Your Texts Are Being Cut Short
You are over the limit once the prefix, the personalization and the opt-out line are counted. Shorten the template: the editor refuses the save and tells you the finished length and how many characters too long it is.
The Wrong Business Name Is In The Prefix
Change Business / Workspace Name under Settings, then the Messaging tab, and click Save Settings. It applies to messages sent from then on.
Email Is Going But Texts Are Not
Check the Sent tab for a badge. Number Pending is carrier approval, Quiet Hours is your send window, and an opted-out contact is skipped entirely.
You Need Your Own Dedicated Number
The sending number is not shown in the portal and is not something you can set from your account. Contact support.
