Quick Start: Your First Event In 5 Minutes
Six steps from an empty workspace to a live event with reminders scheduled.
Last updated October 22, 2026
Do these six steps in order and your first event will be live with reminders scheduled. Everything here is a one-time setup except step 3, which you repeat per event.
Step 1: Name Your Workspace And Set Your Timezone
Every reminder is timed against this, so do it before you create an event.
- In the sidebar, under Workspace, click Settings.
- Open the Messaging tab.
- Fill in Business / Workspace Name. This is what attendees see on your public signup page and in your messages.
- Set Timezone. The hint underneath shows your current time, which is the quickest way to check you picked the right one.
- Click Save Settings.
You should see Settings saved.
Step 2: Check The Master Switch Is On
In the top bar, confirm the switch reads Notifications On. If it reads Notifications Off, nothing will be sent to your attendees no matter what else you set up.
Step 3: Create An Event
- In the sidebar, under Seminars, click Events.
- Click New Event. A dialog titled Add A New Event opens.
- Event Title is the only required field. Date & Time, City and Address / Venue are optional, but fill in the date now: reminders cannot be scheduled without one.
- Click Create Event.
You should see Event created. and the event in the list.
Step 4: Point Your Registrations At OPVII
Forwarding is the fastest route and needs no sign-in.
- Click your avatar in the top bar, and under Workspace click Connections.
- Stay on the Email Inbox tab. Under Forward Your Emails you will see Your Private Forwarding Address.
- Click Copy Address. The button changes to Address Copied.
- In your own mail program, add a rule that forwards your registration confirmations to that address.
If your mail is Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft 365, Apple Mail, iCloud, Yahoo, Zoho, GoDaddy, cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin or SmarterMail, there is a step-by-step walkthrough for it on that page under Setup Guides. Gmail in particular has one trap worth reading about first: see Connecting Your Email Inbox.
Step 5: Send One Real Registration Through
Forward a single registration confirmation to your address by hand, then open the Arrivals tab on the Connections page. The message should appear within seconds, with what OPVII made of it: how many registrations and contacts it created, or why it could not read one.
Step 6: Confirm The Reminders Are Scheduled
- In the sidebar, under Messaging, click Notification Flows.
- Find the row carrying the New-Registration Trigger badge. On a new workspace this is Default Event Drip.
- Check its Status toggle reads On.
- In the sidebar, under Seminars, click Progress. Your flow should show one person enrolled and a Next Send time.
How To Tell It Worked
- The person appears on the event's Roster tab.
- Progress shows them standing at a stage with a scheduled next send.
- Inbox, then the Sent tab, lists their queued messages.
If Something Goes Wrong
The Forwarded Email Never Appeared
Open the Arrivals tab and look for it under Turned Away. Only approved senders can forward in. Add the sender under Who Can Forward To This Address, or click Accept And Import on the row, which imports that message and allows the sender from then on.
It Arrived But Created Nothing
The row will say Nothing we could read as a registration or Filed in your inbox, no registration in it. OPVII needs a name and an email address or phone number it can actually parse. Forward a different confirmation, or add the person by hand from Contacts, then New Contact.
No Reminders Are Scheduled
Two usual causes: the event has no date, which shows as a This Event Has No Date Yet banner on the event with a Set The Event Date button, or the trigger flow is switched off.
